ADMISSIONS

To be eligible for the MFA in Computational Arts at HKUST(GZ), applicants must meet the university's general admission requirements. In addition, applicants must submit a portfolio of creative work (PDF or website link)as part of their application.

We are looking for individuals with a strong creative or artistic background or interest. A technical background is not a necessary requirement. This program is designed for artists, designers, performers, and other creative practitioners who wish to integrate computation into their work or for people from a technical background (computer science etc) who want to move into a creative field. In both cases demonstrated engagement with creative or computational arts is expected and should be reflected in the portfolio.

Acceptable portfolio content includes (but is not limited to):

interactive media, sound works, installations, generative art, games, photography, film, web-based or real-time projects, and other forms of experimental or digital artistic expression.

Applicants with professional experience in creative industries (e.g. game development, digital agencies) are welcome, especially where their contributions to creative work can be clearly identified and credited.

The tuition fee for the MFA in Computational Arts is ¥360,000 CNY total for two years of full-time study.

Scholarships and fee discounts

A limited number of scholarships and fee discounts (20-50%) are available for outstanding applicants, based on portfolio strength, academic performance, and professional experience.
